History Taking and Physical Examination SessionsClass of 2023, Phase 3, 7720 - Clinical Skills III, Clinical Skills, Special Topics2412 sessions of 2 hours each. In these 12 sessions, students will be taking complete histories and physical examinations on patients. In the early sessions, these will be done with tutor supervision. In the later sessions, students will meet patients on their own to perform a history and physical exam. Students will present the patient's findings to the tutor on another day, with the patient present to review as needed. In addition, students will be expected to complete write ups for the patients that they see along with a problem list and differential diagnosis.Two of these 12 sessions are titled "witnessed physical exams". In these sessions, student are observed by a tutor, one on one, doing a full physical examination on a patient. The first of these sessions is formative in nature and verbal feedback is provided to the students following the session. The second of these sessions is summative. In both of these sessions, students are provided with written feedback.

Session 2: motor examination of the lower extremities (including bulk, tone, strength, coordination, and reflexes), sensory examination, tests related to stance and gait, and a review of the entire examination
Obstetrics and Gynecology SessionsClass of 2023, Phase 3, 7720 - Clinical Skills III, Clinical Skills, Obstetrics & Gynecology2Obstetrics session - This is a 2 hour small group session facilitated by an obstetrician.The first half hour of the session will focus on learning how to obtain a history from an obstetrical patient and reviewing the prenatal sheet. The next hour an SP will be supplied and students will be expected to take a prenatal history from that patient, with tutor supervision. For the remaining half an hour, tutors will help the students develop a problem list for the patient and review appropriate obstetrical care. Gynecology Session - This is a 2 hour small group session facilitated by a gynecologist. The first half hour of the session will focus on learning how to obtain a gynecological history. The next hour an SP will be supplied and students will be expected to take a gynecological history from the patient, with tutor supervision. For the remaining half an hour tutors will help the students develop a problem list for the patient and review appropriate gynecological care.
Pediatric SessionsClass of 2023, Phase 3, 7720 - Clinical Skills III, Clinical Skills, Pediatrics10There are five pediatric sessions between October and March. During your five pediatric sessions we expect you to become familiar with the basics of doing a pediatric history and physical examination. These include appreciation for the pediatric patient as distinctly different from an adult, and the importance of assessing 'Growth and Development'.
