Biographical Sketch:  Ms. Sharon Gray Return to MUNMED

Sharon Anita Gray (1950-), journalist, editor (MUNMED News), and Communications Coordinator (Health Sciences) for the Division of Marketing and Communications, Memorial University was born in Toronto, Ontario, on 16 April 1950, the daughter of James Allan Gray and Eleanor Elise Gray (nee Holland).  Ms. Gray has two children, Amelia and Laura Pope.

Ms. Gray completed her early education in Toronto, Ontario at Swansea Public School and Humberside Collegiate.  After a move to Newfoundland in January of 1967 she spent her final year of high school at Bishop’s College, St. John’s where she obtained her high school diploma (1967). Ms Gray later attended Memorial University where she earned a B.A.(Ed.) 1985.

Ms. Gray began a career in journalism after high school. She contributed to various publications including the Telegram (1969-1971).  A number of articles found in the Early Days of the Medical School at Memorial University of Newfoundland digitization project from the Telegram were written by Ms. Gray.  She continued her journalism career with employment as a writer/broadcaster for CBC radio (1973-1979).  Her journalism career was interrupted while she furthered her education at Memorial University and then taught school for a year at St. Lawrence Elementary, Portugal Cove, Newfoundland (1985-1986).  After that time Ms. Gray returned to her journalism roots when she was employed as the Communications Coordinator (Health Sciences) for the Division of Public Relations, Faculty of Medicine (November 1988).  It is now know as the Division of Marketing and Communications. Ms. Gray was the first editor of the newsletter MUNMED, begun in October 1989, and remains the editor of what is now known as MUNMED News.

Ms. Gray resides in St. John’s.
