The Faculty of Medicine Founder’s Archive (FMFA) wishes to thank the following institutions and individuals for their invaluable contributions to this project. We gratefully acknowledge the Department of Heritage through the Canadian Culture Online Program, Library and Archives Canada and the Canadian Council of Archives for their financial support for this project. The funding made it possible to digitize and make available to the public, photographs, videos, and textual material, such as journal articles, publications, and newspaper articles, which reflect the establishment of the Medical School at Memorial University of Newfoundland. To those whose records have been donated to the archive, a very special thank-you; it because of you that that project began. This website was created using primarily archival material. Biographical sketches are written for those individuals, whose records are held at the Faculty of Medicine Founders’ Archive and which were used in the creation of this virtual exhibit. Partnerships: The Lillian Stevenson Nursing Archives and Museum Upon the kind invitation from Janet Story to come to the Lillian Stevenson Nursing Archives and Museum we discovered index card size description sheets containing both the titles to every photograph and corresponding negative numbers. We also discovered another set of negatives, which were numbered. As a result, the titles and images could now be matched. The cooperation of the Lillian Stevenson Nursing Archives and Museum made it possible to put this collection together in its original order. The title for each photograph is quite detailed, thus demonstrating clearly the progression of the construction of the Health Sciences Centre. The Centre for Newfoundland Studies Archives and Manuscript Division Health Sciences Information and Media Service (HSIMS) Several HSIMS people gave their time to this project: Individuals The following also gave their time and expertise: Dr. A. M. House, Dr. William Marshall, Dr. J. Martin, Mr. Ralph Moore, Mr. Charles (Chick) Campbell, Ms. Michele Hutton, and individuals at the Federal Department of Health. To Sheila Gushue, the first Information Officer for the Faculty of Medicine, who began with a three month contract and stayed fifteen years, I am so thankful that you kept all those documents and have donated them to the archive a written legacy of those years. A very special thank-you to Dr. Brian Payton who not only provided so many photographs and identification of individuals wherever possible, but also his time in order to help me understand the workings of the early days of the Medical School. Also, my many hours spent with Dr. Ian Rusted were invaluable treasured times and helped me to understand what the Faculty of Medicine was all about.
