Healthy Sexualities Class of 2023, Phase 3, 7750 - Community Engagement III, Healthy Sexuality0.5Aim: Human sexuality is a critical but sensitive and highly personal aspect of behaviour with many implications for individual health, population health and health care delivery. The topic is often one that is shaped by misunderstanding, misinformation, discomfort, controversy and discrimination. We will discuss sexuality and bodies, gender categories and heteronormativity, a range of sexualities, sexual identities, myths, health related issues, and community resources related to sexual health. The material is intended to increase awareness of and respect for the spectrum of healthy sexual identities and provide resources for addressing health related concerns around sexual behaviours. Students should gain some confidence in their abilities to address health needs and create a safe clinical encounter for all patients regardless of their sexuality. Furthermore, students will learn how to be an advocate and communicator for healthy sexuality and sexual safety for all the population.
