Remarkable control of many infectious diseases has been achieved in Canada, particularly through the use of vaccines; with others such as HIV/AIDS, success has been limited. Screening and risk factor reduction strategies have been applied to the control of chronic diseases such as cardiovascular disease and cancer. This session will examine the basic concepts and principles of disease prevention. |

A physician who knows the health status of the community is better able to plan, deliver and assess the usefulness of care. This session will provide an opportunity to review health indicators and how they may be used in assessing community health status. |
