Session Title:
SURG: Hip Fracture Assessment
Description:
Keywords:
Learning Objectives
Blueprint ID Learning Objectives
1119 Identify the causal conditions of articular hip pain: (a) arthritis (osteoarthritis, septic) (b) osteonecrosis (steroid, alcohol use, renal failure) (c) occult hip fracture (d) aorto-iliac vascular occlusive disease
1120 Outline the causal conditions of fractures/dislocations: (a) high energy injury (i) acute (fracture/dislocation) (ii) chronic (delayed/nonunion/mal-union) (b) low energy injury (i) with exercise (stress fracture) (ii) without exercise (pathologic fracture/osteoporosis)
1121 Describe immobilization and transport techniques involved with traumatized patients.
1122 Differentiate between different causes of lower extremity pain by eliciting essential information (e.g., precipitating events) and maneuvers which reproduce the pain; determine whether there are inflammatory changes, effusion, change in function, or abnormal noise in joint.
1123 Perform examination of lower limb including observation of gait and examination and determination of range of motion of joints.
1124 Determine the following: (a) the etiologic process underlying the injury (b) neurologic and vascular status distal to level of injury (c) location of pain, closed or open fracture, local soft tissue changes (d) whether pain increases with exercise and subsides with rest
1125 If minimal trauma causes a fracture, elicit history of conditions associated with pathologic fractures or identify activity that involves highly repetitive low-level stress.
1126 Interpret critical clinical and laboratory findings which were key in the processes of exclusion, differentiation, and diagnosis.
1127 Conduct an effective management plan for this a patient.
