Learning Objectives
Blueprint ID Learning Objectives
9130 Define chronic renal failure.
9131 Describe how renal function may be measured.
9132 Describe pathogenetic mechanisms leading to the condition including those associated with the more common specific causes (diabetes, glomerular disease, hypertension-vascular, genetic disorders) and non-specific mechanisms of renal disease progression.
9133 Describe the pathology of the more common causes as listed previously.
9134 Describe the general approach to slowing renal disease progression including treatment of some specific causes (diabetes), BP control, use of ACE inhibitors, avoidance of further renal insults, role of various health professionals.
9135 Discuss the effects of chronic renal failure on blood formation, bone and mineral metabolism, parathyroid function, fluid & electrolyte and acid-base status, & cardiovascular function in terms of pathogenetic mechanisms.
9136 Describe the role of the kidney in drug metabolism/elimination and the general principles underlying drug use in renal failure
