Learning Objectives
Blueprint ID Learning Objectives
7828 Describe the characteristics of the pulmonary and systemic vasculatures and understand how they are connected. Describe the flow balance and pressure differences between the two systems.
7829 Describe the differences in the flow velocities, pressure drops in the systemic vasculature and the factors influencing these characteristics.
7830 Describe how elastic, muscular arteries, terminal arterioles, capillaries and veins differ structurally and are adapted to perform specific functions in the systemic vasculature.
7831 Describe the components governing vascular resistance to blood flow (Poiseuille’s Law) and how these factors alter under physiological and pathological conditions.
7832 Describe the influence of vessel wall to lumen cross-sectional area on vascular reactivity and function.
7833 Describe the factors governing laminar vs. turbulent blood flow within the systemic vasculature and the influence of turbulent blood flow on vascular pathology.
7834 Describe the implications of the LaPlace’s Law on vessel stress, function and pathology as well as its effects on heart function.
