Mini Med School 2019

Mini Med School
OPED’s Mini Med School is a long standing program offered via live and webinar settings in the spring of each year. The Mini Medical School began in 2004 in the spirit of building stronger ties with the community by sharing the expertise of our medical faculty and other members of the health professional community. Faculty members volunteer their time to present on areas related to health and wellness.

MedQuest
OPED’s MedQuest is an exciting, career-focused event for all students in grades 10-12 in Newfoundland and Labrador interested in careers in the health sciences. This year, the program will be a virtual one-day event available on Wednesday, August 28, 2024.

We are also excited to announce, new to summer 2024, in-person tours of the Faculty of Medicine! Students will tour the Anatomy Suites, 3D Printing Lab, and much more. Tours will be held Thursday, August 29, 2024. Tours are optional and space is limited. Tour times will be assigned and run approximately 90 minutes.

During the virtual event on August 28, students will be introduced to many health professions such as medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical, and occupational therapy. These health sciences careers and special topics will be presented through lectures, guest speakers, and virtual tours of various health facilities.

Upon completion of MedQuest, learners will be able to:

  • Identify the MUN entry requirements to programs and various career options in health sciences professions including medicine, nursing, pharmacy, physical and occupational therapy.
  • Explore examples of career paths practicing professionals choose in the health sciences, along with their scope of practice.
  • Describe a typical “day in the life” of a learner within MUN health sciences programs.
  • Discuss interprofessional and collaborative learning models while studying and training to be a health science professional.
  • Identify services available to all Memorial University students through Memorial University Students Union.

Please contact us for more information.

MedQuest is held under the aegis of the Office of Professional & Educational Development, Faculty of Medicine, Memorial University of Newfoundland with volunteer speakers from the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador, Newfoundland and Labrador Health Services, and Memorial University of Newfoundland.
