Emergency Medicine Refresher (2026)

Location: Faculty of Medicine & via WebEx

Date: 1 - 2 May 2026

Description

Emergency Medicine Refresher (2026)

Emergency Medicine Refresher 2026 is a hands-on continuing professional development program for primary care providers working in emergency and urgent care. EM Refresher focuses on strengthening diagnostics (ECG interpretation and point-of-care ultrasound) and reinforcing timely management of high-risk presentations including orthopedic injuries, pediatric respiratory distress, delirium in older adults, and acute coronary syndromes, along with procedural refreshers in suturing, casting/splinting, and fracture/dislocation reductions.

Pre-Conference Course
NL POCUS is offering a  Core POCUS Course
 - A full-day Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) program will be held on April 30, 2026. Seating is limited. Registration link to follow. For more information, please contact Dr. Mandy Peach - manydypeach1@gmail.com.

Emergency Medicine Refresher (2026) Learning Objectives

After attending this conference, participants will be able to:

  • Apply evidence-based approaches to assess and manage common and high-risk ED presentations, including cardiac emergencies, pediatric respiratory distress, delirium, and orthopedic injuries.
  • Strengthen diagnostic decision-making by integrating ECG interpretation (including STEMI equivalents and electrolyte-related patterns) and point-of-care ultrasound into clinical assessment
  • Demonstrate improved procedural confidence and technique through skills-based practice (e.g., ultrasound-guided vascular access, advanced suturing/nerve blocks, casting/splinting, and reductions)
  • Translate key research updates and guideline changes into practical ED workflows, while reinforcing effective collaboration and communication within the emergency care team
