MUNMed Reunion – Oct. 25-26, 2024

 

 

 

 

 

MUNMed Reunion will take place Oct. 25 and 26. This year, MD alumni from the classes of 1974, 1979, 1984, 1989, 1994, 1999, 2004, 2009, 2014, and 2019 will join us in St. John's to reconnect with classmates and the Faculty of Medicine. Alumni from any year are also welcome to attend. 

If you have moved since graduation (and who hasn’t at least once?), please provide your updated contact information so we know how to reach you when your reunion year ends. Panel Discussion: Approach to Common Otolaryngologic Complaints for the General Practitioner / Emergency Medicine Provider
Dr. Christopher Dwyer, Dr. Jamie Tibbo - Class of 2014

Learning Objectives:
  • Review the presentation, pathophysiology, treatment options and surgical indications for common otolaryngology complaints/conditions such as sudden hearing loss, globus pharyngeus, throat mucous/phlegm in throat, post nasal drip, chronic cough, rhinitis/rhinosinusitis, and croup
  • Identify practice patterns and ordered investigations that are of low clinical and diagnostic yield, and select more appropriate diagnostic tests that are higher yield and likely to help establish a diagnosis and direct appropriate treatment
  • Critically assess the practice patterns and differences in approaches to diagnosis and treatment amongst fellow general practitioners, emergency medicine providers, and otolaryngology specialists
  • Determine when empiric clinical treatment trials are preferred over extensive diagnostic testing, and recommend appropriate dosing and duration of treatment trials with attention to promoting patient compliance with these empiric trial recommendations
  • Expand your differential diagnosis of common ENT complaints to include systems beyond the location of the symptom itself, and know when to initiate appropriate specialist referrals for various otolaryngologic complaints
