Accreditation

OPED is an accredited provider of university continuing medical education/continuing professional development by the Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME) of the Association of Faculties of Medicine of Canada (AFMC). As such, OPED has the designation to certify/accredit College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) continuing/faculty professional development programs by following accreditation guidelines set forth by the two colleges. In addition, faculty professional development, research collaborations, and assessment and evaluation services also contribute to the continued accreditation of Memorial University’s undergraduate medical education program through the Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS), also part of the AFMC.

CACME

On Nov. 15, 2017 Committee on Accreditation of Continuing Medical Education (CACME) voted to continue accreditation of OPED for an eight-year term. CACME provides a periodic accreditation process to ensure that university continuing medical education and continuing professional development (CME/CPD) offices exhibit high standards of performance through a standards-based external review. The accreditation process involves the preparation of a self-study report, according to guidelines, and a site visit by two surveyors appointed by the CACME Secretariat.

CACMS

The Committee on Accreditation of Canadian Medical Schools (CACMS) ensures that Canadian medical faculties’ MD programs meet the quality expected when producing tomorrow’s doctors. Medical schools demonstrating compliance are afforded accreditation, a necessary condition for a program’s graduates to be licensed as physicians. OPED supports the undergraduate medical education program by providing faculty professional development, research, and assessment and evaluation services – all standards that must be met to achieve successful CACMS accreditation status.

CFPC & RCPSC

As the only CACME accredited university-based provider of continuing/faculty professional development in Newfoundland & Labrador, OPED has the designation to certify/accredit College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC) and Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC) continuing professional/faculty development programs by following accreditation guidelines set forth by the two colleges.
