Communications in Nursing Module.

This program has been designed to provide a basic overview of the communication process, nurse-client communications and communication within the health care team. The goal is to assist you in evaluating your communication skills within the context of nursing practice.


Nursing Process: A Framework for Nursing Care

This program has been designed to provide a basic overview of the nursing process. The goal is to assist you in moving through the five steps of the nursing process utilizing a case study approach. You will be provided the opportunity to apply the knowledge you acquire related to the nursing process and create a nursing care plan.


Appreciating Diversity in the Workplace

This online module is designed to enhance healthcare professionals’ degree of cultural competence. It recognizes that cultural competence is a responsibility that is shared by everyone regardless of their cultural background or employment history.


Cultural Awareness

This online module is intended as an adjunct to the Mentorship Program offered by your employer. It is specifically designed to provide you with an opportunity to enhance your knowledge of, and sensitivity to, the unique challenges facing the IEN who is entering practice in a new country and a new culture.


Canadian Health Care System

This online module has been designed to provide a basic overview of the various components of the Canadian health care system. Through the use of a case study approach, you will increase your awareness of the various components of the Canadian health care system. The integration of this knowledge into every day nursing practice will assist you to provide the best possible patient care.


Mentorship: Nurses Mentoring Nurses

This module describes the mentoring practice, presents a framework that underpins the mentoring practice and offers a model to successfully participate in a mentoring relationship. Learning activities will give an opportunity to reflect on readiness to enter into a mentoring relationship and to explore and practice tasks to successfully facilitate nurses mentoring nurses.


Medication Administration

This online module has been designed to provide an overview of the role and responsibilities of the nurse in administering medications safely and effectively in acute care, long term care, community, and home settings.


Scope of Practice - RN

This module is designed to prepare you to practice as a safe, competent and ethical registered nurse in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. It will describe the range of activities that registered nurses are educated and authorized to perform in this province as defined by the regulatory body governing registered nurse practice, the Association of Registered Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador. The module will also prepare you to address common scope of practice questions and to access resources for making good evidence-based decisions to resolve scope of practice questions.


Jurisprudence: The legislation and rules governing the practice of nursing in NL - RN

This module is designed to provide an overview of the regulatory framework (laws, regulations, by-laws, standards and policies) for registered nursing practice in Newfoundland and Labrador (NL) and your obligations under the framework.

The goal of this online learning module is to inform you of the legal and ethical foundation that defines the practice and boundaries of the nursing profession in NL. It also describes your accountabilities for supporting safe and effective nursing practice.



Scope of Practice - LPN

This module Scope of Practice for Licensed Practical Nurses in Newfoundland and Labrador is designed to prepare you to practice as a safe, competent and ethical licensed practical nurse in the province of Newfoundland and Labrador. The module will describe the range of activities that licensed practical nurses are educated and authorized to perform in this province as defined by the regulatory body governing the practice of licensed practical nurses; the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Newfoundland and Labrador. The module will also prepare you to address common scope of practice questions and to access resources for making good evidence-based decisions to resolve scope of practice questions.

Leadership Module 1 : What's Needed to Become a Leader in Nursing Today

In this module, the 1st in the series of Leadership for Nurses, you will examine the meaning of the term, “Leader”, as it applies nationally, within the sphere of nursing, and as it relates to you – the practicing RN or LPN.


Leadership Module 2 : Communication & Conflict Management For Nursing Leaders

In this module, the 2nd in the series of Leadership for Nurses, you will be looking at communication and conflict resolution for nursing leaders. You will review positive communication practices such as active listening, “I” statements, paraphrasing and summarizing. You will learn the most common causes of conflict, the outcome of conflict in the workplace and methods to prevent conflict from occurring or escalating. Finally, you will work through an example of conflict resolution using a collaborative approach.


Leadership Module 3 : Decision Making, Assignment and Delegation for Nursing Leaders

In this module, the 3rd in the series of Leadership for Nurses, you will be looking at decision making in the clinical area and how good decisions can be made even when issues are complex. You will also be introduced to the concepts of assignment, formal delegation and informal delegation in the health care field and will work through examples of each. You will address accountability as it pertains to assignment and delegation. Finally, you will be introduced to coaching, mentoring and preceptorship and how assigning care can highlight opportunities for you to use these 3 teaching strategies to build your team strengths.


Leadership Module 4 : Managing Change, Your Time & Your Team

In this module, the 4th in the series of Leadership for Nurses, you will look at the relationship between change and healthcare.
