Salem Werdyani, a second-year M.Sc. student in the Human Genetics Program, is the winner of the inaugural Medical Graduate Student Society (MGSS) Travel Award in Medicine, valued at $500. He was ranked first by three of the four judges for this award.
 
Mr. Werdyani gave an oral presentation at the third annual Canadian Human and Statistical Genetics meeting, held May 3-6 in Victoria B.C.  His presentation was genes and pathways that may be affected by the germline copy number variations (CNVs) in colorectal cancer patients.
 
His supervisor is Dr. Sevtap Savas, assistant professor, Discipline of Genetics, cross-appointed with the Discipline of Oncology.
