There were oral and poster presentations at this year’s Internal Medicine Research Day held on Friday, May 16th, 2014. The Dr. David Hawkins Medical Resident Research Award was presented to Dr. Vipul for his presentation on Penicillin Allergies: Referral and Management Practices of Anesthesiologists.  
 
 

In addition to the awards shown below, the Cameron Raffard Award was presented in memory of Dr. Raffard, a second-year internal medicine resident who died January 13th, 2008. This award is given to the resident who reflects Dr. Raffard’s values and exhibits an aptitude for health advocacy.  This year’s award winner was Dr. Paul Boland who was unavailable for a photograph.

Dr. Shaina Goudie received the Dr. Harry Edstrom Medical Resident Research Award. Her poster presentation topic was A Review of Rheumatology Patients Reported Symptoms and Medical Compliance. (No photo available)

The three judges who participated in this year’s research day were Dr. Wayne Gulliver, Discipline of Medicine; Dr. Sheila Drover, Division of Bio-Medical Sciences and Dr. Proton Rahman, Discipline of Medicine.

The Dr. Grenfell Adams Medical Research Award was presented to Anne Gregory by Dr. Sean Connors for her presentation on Impact of BMI on In-Hospital Outcomes after PCI.
 
 
The Dr. Patrick Parfrey Medical Resident Research Award was presented to Dr. Paul Boland by Dr. Sean Connors.   His topic was The effect of Implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) therapy in ARVC patients according to genotype.  (No photo available)
 

This year the Dr. John Simpson Memorial Award was presented to Dr. Mary Malebranche by Dr. John Shik. This award is given to the internal medicine resident(s), chosen by his or her peers, who demonstrates excellence in teaching other members of the internal medicine house staff and medical students. The award is a tribute to Dr. Simpson, a former medical internist at St. Clare’s Mercy Hospital, who died in 1998 at the age of 46.
 

Dr. Adam (AJ) Howes received the Dr. Missan Postgraduate Cardiology Scholarship in Medicine. The award was presented by Dr. Sean Connors.
 
The Dean David Hawkins Award for Resident Teaching in Medicine was presented to Dr. Ian MacPherson. The award was presented by Dr. Annette Felix, wife of the late Dr. Hawkins.
