Faculty and staff awards celebrated
December 9, 2013
The inaugural Faculty and Staff Awards Luncheon took place Dec. 6, celebrating awards at the university, provincial, national and international level in the last five years. Dr. James Rourke, dean of medicine, welcomed everyone to this special event. Before the lunch, he played a video of the 100th laureate of the Canadian Medical Hall of Fame – Dr. Ian Rusted, founder of Memorial’s medical school.
 
The following awards were acknowledged at the luncheon:

Faculty of Medicine
  • 2013 Keith Award from Society of Rural Physicians of Canada, given to the postgraduate medical program which has excelled in producing rural doctors (this marks the fifth time the Faculty of Medicine has received this award).

2012 Award of Recognition to Team Broken Earth from the NL chapter of the College of Family Physicians of Canada
 
The Centre for Health Care Professional Education (CCHPE) received the top prize in 2010 and 2009 in the Academy
for Healthcare Improvement’s competition for the Duncan Neuhauser Awards. In 2010, the Interprofessional Education Module for Patient Safety took the top prize. The 2009 winning submission was titled Teaching Collaboration Competencies in Clinical Training: Where the Rubber Hits the Road. In the 2012 competition CCHPE
received honourable mention for the submission titled Interprofessional education in practicing teams: Improving Collaboration and Patient Safety.
