Ms. Fowler is supervised by Dr. Curtis French, an assistant professor in the discipline, and her thesis pertains to the discovery of genes that regulate blood vessel development.

The national award, from Indspire's Building Brighter Futures: Bursaries, Scholarships, and Awards program, is worth $4,000. Indspire is the largest funder of Indigenous post-secondary education outside the federal government.

The other scholarship is the Terra Nova Aboriginal Masters Student Scholarship valued at $7,500. This Memorial University graduate scholarship was established with the generous support of Terra Nova to encourage Aboriginal students in the pursuit of graduate programs at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
