News at Medicine - August 2016 - Message from the Dean of Medicine

Message from the Dean of Medicine
August 15, 2016
I am very excited and feel honoured to be starting my first day as the dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Memorial University of Newfoundland.
Through the selection process to become your dean, I have learned about the many strengths of the Faculty of Medicine and the significant opportunities to build on the impressive accomplishments of Dr. James Rourke and his team.

I would like to thank Dr. Rourke for his leadership in creating an internationally recognized, socially accountable medical school with strong education and research programs that has expanded to better meet the needs of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador and beyond.

As I start my new role, I look forward to meeting students, residents, faculty and staff and learning more about what makes you proud to be a member of the Faculty of Medicine community. What are the big opportunities you see that will help us to transform health care for a healthier Newfoundland and Labrador through world-class research and experiential education, exceptional clinical practice and community engagement?

Please help me as I begin a 90 days of listening and learning so that I can learn as much as I can about the history of the school, the culture and the possibilities.

If you see me in the hall, cafeteria or on campus please introduce yourself to me so that we can get to know each other.

I am delighted to be your dean and together, I believe we can make significant contributions to the health of the people and communities throughout Newfoundland and Labrador. I look forward to our journey together.

Best Regards
