Program Evaluation

Program evaluation measures the degree to which medical education program goals and objectives have been achieved. It consists of formative and summative evaluation processes, involving data collection and data analysis from internal and external sources to inform decision-making at the course, phase and curriculum levels.

Program evaluation is necessary to:
  • determine the effectiveness and efficiency of the educational process in facilitating learning;
  • determine the success of the educational program in accomplishing its goal to prepare students for entry to medical practice;
  • provide evidence that the medical education program is responsive and accountable to internal and external stakeholders.

The Program Evaluation Sub-Committee (PESC) at Memorial University of Newfoundland is the evaluation oversight committee for the undergraduate medical program.
