Global Health
The International Summer Institute for Global Health training (InSIGHT) is a program offered through Memorial University Faculty of Medicine to promote a deeper understanding of the challenges in global health through experiential learning and a focus on the social determinants of health.

InSIGHT is dedicated to social accountability, health equity and social justice both at home and abroad and challenges participants to take lessons learned in international settings back to local contexts where underserved populations face similar difficulties in equity and access to health.

The program runs for 4 weeks in July in Kathmandu Nepal and introduces learners to a range of approaches to problem solving through meetings with activists and agencies working for social justice and program development .

The first two weeks are spent exploring challenges and innovative solutions at the community level by looking at gender, family politics, reproduction, livelihoods, water and sanitation, food security and politics as they influence health and well being. Highlights include a rural visit to explore the mechanisms in health care delivery in a remote mountainous context.  The second half of the program is spent in a clinical setting locating the context in practice.
The program is open to pre-clerkship students in medicine and applications are invited in November of each year. For more information please contact the Global Health Office
