Pathology of Lymph Nodes
LN-1-3 |
Hodgkin's disease: All three show the mixed background which onsists of benign inflammatory cells - eosinophils, lymphocytes and plasma cells.
LN-1 |
Classic R-S cells with bilobed nucleus and mirror image nucleoli are seen. |
| |
LN-2 |
A mononuclear variant of a Hodgkin's cells is present in the lower right hand corner. It is a large cell with a large nucleus nucleolus. |
||
LN-3 |
A variety of Hodgkin's cells are seen, including a cell to the left, with a "popcorn-like" multilobated nucleus and prominent nucleolus. |
||
LN- 4-11 |
Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma: This series of slides points out the variety of cell sizes, shapes and other features which may be seen in the constellation of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Note the absence of features of Hodgkin's disease, i.e. R-S cells and benign background cell and the overall "monotony" of the cell population.
LN-4 |
Well differentiated lymphocytic lymphoma: small round lymphocytes with mature nuclear features, may be somewhat "plasmacytoid". |
||
LN-5 |
The nodular or follicular pattern of architecture is seen in low grade and a few of the intermediate grade lymphomas. |
||
LN-6 |
Small cleaved cells (low grade lymphoma). |
||
LN-7 |
Mixed small and large cells (low or intermediate grade, depending on the architectural pattern which cannot be determined from this slide. |
||
LN-8 |
Large cleaved cells (Intermediate grade lymphoma). |
||
LN-9 |
Large non-cleaved cell lymphomas - aside from being larger in size these nuclei are more immature and may show several small but prominent nucleoli (Intermediate grade lymphomas) |
||
LN-10 |
Immunoblastic cells - large with more prominent nucleoli (High grade lymphoma) |
