New committee will advise health minister A provincial coordinating committee has been established to advise the minister of health and community services on matters related to physician recruitment and retention. The deputy minister of health and community services will serve as chair of the committee. Representatives will be from the Faculty of Medicine, the Medical Student Society, the Professional Association of Interns and Residents, the Newfoundland and Labrador Medical Association, the Newfoundland and Labrador Health Care Association, active rural physicians and the provincial government. "This committee can have a very positive effect by recognizing the potential of our own medical graduates and respecting the experience and skill of physicians in other parts of the world," said Joan Marie Aylward, minister of health and community services. The committee will look at recruiting recent graduates of Memorial, as well as physicians from all over the world. The group will monitor the ongoing physician recruitment needs of each region in order to identify areas of most need. |
