Communications - Medical Education Expansion

The expansion of the medical education program of the Faculty of Medicine and the creation of the Craig L. Dobbin Genetics Research Centre will be accommodated in a new six-storey building adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre.

The Medical Education Centre will be on levels one and two and the Craig L. Dobbin Genetics Research Centre will be on levels three, four and five.

This building has allowed us to increase our medical class size from 60 plus to more than 80, which began in the fall of 2013.

This new building also provides space for the growth of leading edge genetic research activity.

Key features of the new building include:
  • The new state of the art Clinical Learning and Simulation Centre
  • Two large lecture theatres
  • Standardized patient exam rooms
  • Educational support units
  • Wet and dry laboratory research space

Funding for the new building is provided by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Canada Foundation  for Innovation.

The new building will provide approximately 150,000 square feet of additional space.

The overall project is a commitment to, and an investment in, the provision of enhanced health care to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
