Accessing area 9 parking lot after hours

There have been some inquiries about accessing the area 9 parking lot after hours.

As of Tuesday, October 11, Campus Enforcement and Patrol will program the gates to open at 3:50 p.m. until 7 a.m. the following morning, Monday through Friday and all day on weekends and Memorial University statutory holidays. Area 9 overflow is also available during these hours.

Current temporary pass users

Anyone who uses a temporary parking pass to park in area 9 after hours should not have a problem getting into the lot because the gates will be up. In the beginning, because this is a new operating system there is a chance the gates may not raise after hours, but CEP will be monitoring the gates. The recommended alternative is to use the overflow lot.

With these changes to parking, feedback is appreciated as we work to make this transition as smooth as possible so that we are following similar parking procedures found in other lots across campus.

Effective November 4th 2010, there be a slight change in the traffic flow for employees exiting the NRC lot. Instead of exiting to the south (in front) of the Utilities Annex to gain access to Sandpits Road, employees will now be able to exit to Sandpits via the roadway to the north (behind) the Annex.  This roadway previously permitted only one-way traffic from east to west, but will now allow two-way traffic. While exiting to the south of the Annex is still possible, employees are discouraged from using that route as it will continue to be used by larger industrial-sized vehicles servicing the Annex and by vehicles used in Parking Garage construction.

New lines have been painted on the roadway in question, directional signage has been installed. We fully expect that this change will be a big improvement over the previous exiting arrangement.

For any questions or concerns about parking, please contact Campus Enforcement and Patrol CEP@mun.ca. For campus emergencies, please call 864-4100.
