eHealth Research Unit


The eHealth Research Unit (eHRU) inherits a 35-year continuous legacy of telehealth initiatives based at the Memorial University of Newfoundland.  The Unit's current form was established in August 2005 with Dr. Doreen Neville as Director and Marian Elliott as Secretary. In December 2006 Dr. Gerard Farrell took over as Director.


The Mission of the eHealth Research Unit is:

To develop a Centre of Excellence in research related to the development, use and impact of information systems in health care in Newfoundland and Labrador

The Goals of the eHealth Research Unit are:

To conduct and direct research related to the development, implementation and evaluation of information systems technologies in the delivery of health care services;

To provide a test-bed for the development of new approaches to health care delivery using information technologies that can be successfully transferred to and sustained by the health care delivery system;

To provide a forum for students, faculty and health care providers to exchange ideas and perspectives related to the use of information technologies in the health care system in order to enhance health care delivery and the evaluation of the impact of these technologies.
