Job Description:

The Dean is the chief executive officer of the Faculty, responsible for ensuring the academic, education and scholarly work are being achieved in the best way possible, within the resources available.

What I like about my work:

The variety of challenges, the different people I meet, the incredible spirit in students, scholars, and patients.

What I don't like about my work:

Having to defend the value of the University and the Medical School to the community and government. I grew up believing our society saw post-secondary education and professional education as a "given". Seeing the suffering... emotional and physical, in my patients.

One Good Memory:

Having faculty and students fully supportive of our blueprint for rural health.

One Bad Memory:

Faculty council's anger over special streaming of students for rural practice.

The most important thing about caring for patients is...

Showing them that no matter what the issue, what the problem... what the disaster... you will try to ease their pain.
