From July 4 to 6, 2007, SafetyNet, Memorial University hosted the Atlantic Networks for Prevention Research (ANPR) Conference Assessment and Action for Healthy Settings at the Fairmont Newfoundland in St. John’s, NL.

As the second ANPR Conference, this event focused on healthy environments and highlighted research on disease prevention and health promotion with a special emphasis on approaches and tools for assessing health challenges and opportunities in specific settings as well as for developing and evaluating effective interventions.

ANPR, which began in 2004, is a network of networks that is developing methods for linking research with interventions to prevent illness and promote health with a focus on four settings: communities, public health organizations, workplaces, and schools. ANPR is funded by a multi-year grant from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research through its ‘Centres for Research Development’ program. For more information on ANPR go to

This report discusses the planning, programming, and evaluation of the Conference and includes recommendations for planning the next ANPR event.
