TITLE: Petrosal sinuses
DESCRIPTION: The right superior petrosal sinus is exposed as the tentorium is incised. It appears to be leading into the transverse sinus. On the left the big blue structure represents the end of the sigmoid sinus. (As sigmoid sinus passes through the jugular foramen it becomes the internal jugular vein.) The inferior petrosal sinus is not shown. Why are these called petrosal?
