PTRG Research

PTRG’s research interests are focused on conducting and enabling pharmacogenetic and genetic studies with the population of Newfoundland and Labrador. Through partnerships with local physicians and academic and industry based researchers PTRG aims to expedite novel gene discovery through the rapid provision of genealogical information and the linking of that information to drug and health outcomes.

Studies recently completed or underway include genealogical research relating to Pulmonary Fibrosis, Acute Right Ventricular Cardiomyopathy, Otosclerosis and Attenuated Familial Adenomatous Polyposis. For each of these individual conditions PTRG was asked to produce extended familial information for each of the probands involved in the study in an attempt to identify familial links.

In addition to supporting genetic research PTRG is working on the development of a state of the art pedigree visualisation tool which will include novel features such as; GIS visualisation, heritability and risk scoring, flow based diagrams and data masking utilities.
