What We Do

PTRG's work can be categorized into three service offerings:

  • Research
  • Infrastructure
  • Data Management & Analysis

These three offerings are the pillars with which we will fulfill our vision of conducting and facilitating therapeutic health research in Newfoundland and Labrador. By combining these initiatives, we will provide a complete marketable service which will be attractive to both academics and in the future the wider pharmaceutical industry and private research establishments.

Research

PTRG research interests are focused on conducting pharmacogenetic and pharmacoepidemiological studies with the population of Newfoundland and Labrador. By partnering with local physicians, our research team works to collect prescription drug and genetic information from research participants with the aim of enhancing drug therapy based on individual genetic profiles. Infrastructure

Genetic studies are often hampered by a lack of readily ascertainable familial data (genealogies)  In response to this need, PTRG is leading the development of the Heritability Analytics Infrastructure (HAI) in collaboration with the Newfoundland and Labrador Statistics Agency. [read more]

Data Management & Analysis

As part of PTRG's research data management platform, we are working to integrate genealogy linkage with health outcomes or genetic data to determine heritability scores (a number depicting the degree to which two people are related), in addition to pedigree analysis and visualization. Other analytic services will be enabled through this project including relationship identification, segmentation, predictive scoring and statistical data analysis.
