About Us

PTRG is a non-profit research team within Memorial University of Newfoundland's Faculty of Medicine. Led by Dr. Proton Rahman, the team was established in 2004 to carry out drug research in Newfoundland and Labrador that will be used to inform policy makers and practitioners in the health care system.

Dr. Rahman initiated PTRG when he recognized the opportunity for conducting more pharmacogenetic research in Newfoundland and Labrador. Research conducted in this area can lead to better health outcomes, an increase in research and development, and biotechnology opportunities for people in the province. The development of the Heritability Analytics Infrastructure HAI is a key element in furthering this research and as such has become the current focus of the PTRG's work.

Mission

PTRG will carry out, support and enable drug research in the population of Newfoundland and Labrador to inform policy makers and practitioners with the aim to reduce undesirable drug reactions, ensure drug effectiveness, optimize drug dosage decisions, and enhance drug therapy based on individual genetic profile.

Vision

Working together for therapeutic drug research in Newfoundland and Labrador.
