Welcome to the MUN Med Gateway Project

The MUN Med Gateway Project is a volunteer program for medical students at Memorial University. the purpose of the program is to train students in cross-cultural medicine and engage them in community action while improving access to health care for newcomers in Newfoundland.
The idea of the MUN Med Gateway Project began during 2005-2006 school year when Monica Kidd and Yoella Teplistky, in their second year of medical studies, started exploring the idea of a community initiative to benefit new immigrants. Clinical skills and Medical Ethics, a course offered to second year medical students , was instrumental in developing the idea of the MUN Med Gateway Project.
Since then, the MUN Med Gateway Project has improved in many different aspects such as;
- Increasing number of medical students interested into volunteer with us.
- Creation of a database to maintain records of the clinic histories.
- Hiring of a part-time project coordinator in charge of the project administration, as well as keeping smooth communication among the project participants (medical students, supervisors, partners, clients, family doctors and community organizations and institutions)
- Maintain contact with family doctors who cooperate with the Gateway Project.
