Clinical Skills Teaching Rooms


The multidisciplinary teaching laboratories are comprised of twelve fully equipped teaching laboratories as well as preparation and storage facilities for materials used in the set up of laboratory based sessions for undergraduate and graduate medicine; School of Nursing; School of Pharmacy; and affiliated disciplines within the Faculty of Medicine and Eastern Health. The teaching laboratories are located on the second floor of the Health Science Complex. Ten teaching clinics and support facilities are located on the first floor of the south side of the Health Sciences Center.

Multidisciplinary Teaching Laboratories (MDL)

The multidisciplinary teaching laboratories support the laboratory based teaching of a broad range of subjects including anatomy; physiology; immunology; microbiology; pharmacology; hematology; and clinical skills teaching. The MDL also provide support for laboratory based teaching to the Faculty of Science; School of Nursing and School of Pharmacy. The MDL rooms are available and suitable for teaching and training workshops in a variety of disciplines and can be set up for traditional wet laboratory or conference style small group teaching. Medical technologist, Karen Stapleton is available to provide equipment, materials and teaching support. Some of the equipment available for use in the laboratories include, single head microscopes, Olympus and Nikon multi-head and video microscopes; spirometers; and Gould ECG chart recorders.

Clinical Skills Teaching Clinics

The Clinical Skills Teaching space consists of ten clinics, a consultation room, audio/visual control room and training room. Each room is equipped with privacy screens, examination bed, walled mounted blood pressure apparatus and examination lamps. This space is available for the teaching of clinical skills; clinical trials; genetic counseling; patient interviews; and other practiced patient encounters. The Clinical Skills Teaching space houses the office and training area for the Standardized Patient Program.

Computerized Room Bookings

All the MDL Clinical Skills teaching clinics are now currently booked by Cynthia Skinner teaching rooms may be booked in advance by contacting the room booking coordinator, Mrs. Karen Stapleton.
