The expansion of the medical education program of the Faculty of Medicine and the Craig L. Dobbin Genetics Research Centre will be accommodated in a new six-storey building adjacent to the Health Sciences Centre. This new building will allow for an increased medical class size from 60 plus to more than 80, starting in the fall of 2013, and provide space for the growth of leading edge genetic research activity. Key features of the new building include an advanced patient simulation centre, two large lecture theatres, standardized patient exam rooms, educational support units, and wet and dry laboratory research space. Funding for the new building is provided by the Government of Newfoundland and Labrador and the Canada Foundation  for Innovation. The new building will provide approximately 150,000 square feet of additional space. The overall project is a commitment to, and an investment in, the provision of enhanced health care to the people of Newfoundland and Labrador.
