Supporting research that makes a difference

Research at the Faculty of Medicine has a strategic focus on the needs of the people of Newfoundland and Labrador, yet the work we do for the benefit of this province will have a global impact.

Medical Conditions Impacting the People of Newfoundland and Labrador

Research focused on the prevention and treatment of many medical conditions including:

• Arthritis and
autoimmune diseases
• Cancer
• Cardiovascular diseases
• Diabetes
• Digestive disorders
• Genetic conditions
• Aging
• Hearing and vision
• Infectious diseases
• Kidney and liver diseases
• Learning and memory
• Mental illnesses
• Obesity
• Respiratory diseases
• Women’s health conditions

Healthy Communities and our Health-Care System

Other research initiatives look beyond specific diseases and concentrate on broader issues such as:

• The health of populations and communities
• Environmental health
• Living and working in harsh environments
• Government health policy
• Health system organization
• Health-care delivery

How can you empower new discoveries, life saving research and the optimization of health-care?

1 | MEDICAL RESEARCH FUND (MRF)

The MRF has been established by the Faculty of Medicine to develop and maintain research excellence.
Grants provide critical support to research projects at an early stage. A committee reviews project potential and research priorities, allocating funds to ensure the greatest impact.

Your contribution to this fund can be at any level. It will be a catalyst for our researchers, allowing them to unlock the potential of their ideas.

2 | NAMING AND DESIGNATING A SPECIFIC RESEARCH FUND

Naming and designating a research fund allows your gift to target a medical challenge, disease or systemic health care issue that is meaningful to you.

A minimum investment of $40,000 (or $10,000 per year for a four year commitment) will create this vitally important research fund in a name of your choosing.
