Meghan Greene - Honors Student, Biochemistry Nutrition

I began working in the Sun Lab in May 2009 after receiving a Summer Undergraduate Research Award (SURA). I had previously volunteered in the lab in the fall of 2008 and at this time, I updated the nutrition questionnaire database as well as completed a small research project.

In the fall of 2009 I started an Honors project that examined whether there is a genetic association between the percentage of body fat in various regions of the body and single polymorphisms (mutations) of the adipose triglyceride lipase (ATGL) gene. This recently discovered lipase acts predominantly during the first step of fat breakdown. I am currently working on writing my thesis and in the spring of 2010 I will graduate with an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry Nutrition (Honors). I have enjoyed being part of this hard working and friendly lab.
