Understanding the aetiology of diabetes: A multi-faceted approach

Dr. Sun, chair of the Nutrigenomics Research Interest Group (NRIG), gave a presentation, entitled "Understanding the aetiology of diabetes: A multi-faceted approach" at the September Canada-China Joint Workshop on Diabetes in Shanghai. Dr. Sun presented recent findings from his research team based in Memorial University of Newfoundland in the field of diabetes and diabetes-related disorders. These findings were obtained from his CIHR-funded Newfoundland population based CODING study and the Positive Energy Challenge Study (PEC). Numerous diabetes and obesity candidate genes were discovered from these two studies. Moreover, dietary and endocrine factors important for the development of both diseases were discovered as well.

Among the CIHR delegates, Dr. Sun was one of the five outstanding CIHR-funded diabetes researchers who presented in this bilateral country workshop held September 12-14, 2011. For detailed information, please see the CIHR e-newsletter attached. Pictured above is Dr. Sun (first row on the far right) with other participants of the workshop.
