RESIDENCE REQUIREMENT FOR ADMISSION
FACULTY OF MEDICINE - MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY
BONA FIDE RESIDENT OF NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR  -  April 2011

Admissions preference is given to Canadian Citizens or Canadian Permanent Residents who the Admissions Committee determine are residents of Newfoundland and Labrador at the time of application.

The following criteria will be used to determine residence status.  However, applicants who are living or have lived in Newfoundland and Labrador and do not meet these criteria, will be reviewed on an individual basis.

The place of residence for students is normally presumed to be the province in which the home of the parent is located; individuals will be deemed residents of Newfoundland and Labrador if they:

•    are currently residing or permanent address in the province and attended school for five years during primary to high school inclusive; or

•    are currently working full-time in the province for three years continuously not attending a post-secondary educational institution; or

•    are currently residing or permanent address in the province for three years continuously because of family relocation, eg. of parent or spouse; or

•    are currently residing or permanent address in the province for one year because of obtaining Canadian Permanent Resident Status.

Your residence status must be indicated at the time of application and you will be notified if the decision differs.  Please note that these rules are constantly under review and may change from year to year.

All applicants are expected to claim the same place of residence on all applications to medical schools.
