Margaret received her Diploma in Nursing from the Victoria Public Hospital, her Bachelor of Nursing from the University of New Brunswick , her master’s level NP and her Ph.D from the University of Illinios at Chicago . After working for seven years in the out patient HIV clinic at Cook County Hospital in Chicago she returned to Fredericton to take a Faculty position at the University of New Brunswick . She currently manages the Community Health Clinic in addition to teaching for the Faculty of Nursing. In addition, she has been very involved with getting the Nurse Practitioner program established within the University and within the province and across Canada .

In 2003, Margaret was the recipient of the Award of Excellence (for exceptional contribution to the development of nursing in HIV/AIDS Care) from the Canadian Association of Nurses in AIDS Care. In 2004 she received a UNB Merit Award for her work at the University. As part of position at the Community Health Clinic, she has spoken to numerous professional and community groups concerning addiction and its role in the spread of Hepatitis C, harm reduction, and primary health care.

Since her appointment at UNB Margaret has been involved in several relevant research studies. In 2001 she was a Co-PI for a study that addressed the capacity of IDU’s to access health services in New Brunswick . In 2004 She was Co-PI  on the New Brunswick portion of the OPICAN Cohort Study and a member of a team who received funding to learn about the social support networks and the needs of adults with chronic pain who are on Methadone.
